Pediatric Optometry in BenidormA healthy visual system to learn and grow
Book a Children's EvaluationMuch More than Checking Whether They Need Glasses
What is pediatric optometry?
Pediatric optometry is the field of eye care that diagnoses, prevents and treats problems of the visual system in children and teenagers. Unlike an adult eye test, it does not stop at checking whether the child needs glasses: it assesses whether their whole visual system is developing properly, so they can learn and grow as they should.
What Do We Assess in a Children's Eye Exam?
A child's visual system develops from birth until the age of 8 or 10. During that stage we assess skills that go far beyond visual acuity.
Eye health
We check that the health of the child's eyes is within normal limits.
Refractive errors
We identify myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.
Binocular vision and eye movements
That both eyes work as a team, follow moving objects accurately and make the eye jumps that reading requires.
Accommodation
The ability to focus quickly and sharply when switching distance, for example from the book to the whiteboard.
Visual perception
How the brain processes, interprets and organizes what it sees: essential for reading, writing and finding their way in space.
An exam made for them
Tests adapted to each age, with time and patience so the child feels at ease in the exam room.
Treatments Adapted to Their Age
Depending on the diagnosis, we apply the most suitable solution for each child.
- 01
Optical correction
Glasses when a refractive error needs correcting, optical solutions for play and sport, and contact lenses.
- 02
Myopia control
Peripheral defocus spectacle lenses, specific soft contact lenses or orthokeratology to slow down the increase in diopters.
